Tattoo Removal

Laser Tattoo Removal is one of the newest and most effective means of removing unwanted tattoos. Methods used before the use of lasers in tattoo removal, such as surgeries and different types of skin abrasion, left behind unsightly scars where the tattoo had previously been.

The laser works by targeting the ink pigment beneath the surface while leaving the normal skin intact. An average treatment is 15 minutes. Most tattoos require multiple treatments for complete fading.

The beam of light emitted from the laser, lightens the tattoo without causing harm to the surrounding healthy skin. The ink particles absorb the laser light and are broken up into tiny fragments as a result. These smaller particles are removed by the body's own immune system as bodily waste.

This procedure does not require any anesthetic, although, a topical anesthetic can be used upon patients request for added comfort.

Tattoos normally require 4-10 treatments, with about a 2 month intermission between each treatment. However, number of treatments depends on the amount and type of ink, tattoo location, patient health and depth of the ink in the skin.

Before and after treatment patients should avoid sun exposure at the treated area. Should the laser treated area be exposed to the sun, a sunscreen SPF 25 or higher is recommended. Avoid clothing and bandage dressing which would cause rubbing at the treated area as well.

This procedure is usually performed in the comfort of your doctor's office. Typically, you may resume normal activities and return to work immediately after your laser treatment.
