| Psoriasis The Pulse Dye Laser is very effective in treating psoriasis. It selectively eliminates the small blood vessels beneath the skin that support the growth of the psoriatic plaque. When these vessels are gone, the psoriatic growth will diminish greatly and the area will become increasingly clear. After the area is treated, patients may notice hyper-pigmentation, or slight bruising. These side-effects fade as the area heals. The DCD (Dynamic Cooling Device), incorporated into the laser itself, produces a small burst cryogen a half second before the laser pulse is emitted. The DCD has been helpful in reducing discomfort during the treatment and reducing the risk of blistering or scabbing. The accompanying discomfort has been described as a rubber band snap type sensation. The duration of the treatment will depends on the size of the area to be treated. Treatment may consist of multiple treatments, each separated by 6 to 12 weeks. You will need to discuss this with the physician or nurse performing the treatment. This procedure is usually performed in the comfort of your doctor's office. Typically, you may resume normal activities and return to work immediately after your laser treatment.
