| Sebaceous Hyperplasia Sebaceous Gland Hyperplasia is a common and benign proliferation of the sebaceous gland. There may be one or more lesions, appearing as soft, yellow, papules on various areas of the face, although, these lesions can also be found on the chest, areola, mouth and vulva. SGH lesions can be effectively treated with the use of laser technology. Studies have suggested that dermal heating abrogates the normal gland function of creating the oily substance, sebum. The gentle burst of laser light targets the water in the skin at the affected area, heating a dermal zone. The heat induces the destruction of the sebaceous gland, which is causing the yellow and inflamed papules on the skin. Typically, patients require 1 to 3 treatments to reduce the size of the lesions effectively; however, the total number for each specific patient varies accordingly with the severity of the condition. It may be recommended by the doctor performing the procedure that a post- treatment ointment be used to aid in healing. Healing periods are very limited. This procedure is usually performed in the comfort of your doctor's office. Typically, you may resume normal activities and return to work immediately after your laser treatment.
